Somerset Patriots & Right2Breathe® Partner for 2nd annual “Home Runs for Healthy Lungs” Night

Flemington, NJ-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Right2Breathe® and The Somerset Patriots to Host a Lung Health Awareness, Education, Screening & Fundraising Event featuring a Pre-Game Car Show on July 31st, 2019 at TD Bank Ballpark

Bridgewater, NJ – Lung Diseases like Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) impacts the daily lives of more than 1.3 million residents of New Jersey; nearly 13 percent of the state’s population. To increase awareness, provide educational resources, and offer baseball fans with the opportunity to take a free lung screening exam, the Somerset Patriots and Right2Breathe® are proud to announce the second annual Home Runs for Healthy Lungs Night, to be held July 31, 2019 at TD Bank Ballpark, when the Patriots host the York Revolution.

A 2008 survey completed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) indicated that more than 800,000 New Jersey adults and children have been diagnosed and currently live with Asthma. An additional study by the CDC showed that more than 450,000 people living in New Jersey have been diagnosed with COPD. Flemington-based non-profit organization Right2Breathe® was established in 2014 to help improve resources for currently diagnosed patients, caregivers and healthcare providers of respiratory diseases, while providing free spirometry exams during their events, which can help people understand how their lungs are currently functioning and is the first step in being diagnosed.

The Home Runs for Healthy Lungs health initiative is a program created by Right2Breathe® for baseball fans to raise awareness of the dangers of nicotine addiction, provide education and guidance for people living with Asthma and COPD, and provide an opportunity for free lung screening.  This is the second year of the program with the winningest baseball franchise of the Atlantic League, the Somerset Patriots, which will include a free car show prior to the game. For people interested in participating in the car show, email breathe@right2breathe.org.

“As a New Jersey-based non-profit organization, it was an easy decision to continue our program with the Somerset Patriots,” stated Right2Breathe® CEO and co-founder Joe Morrison. “The key to living with any respiratory disease is early detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Through the help of the Patriots along with funding and resources from our partners Novartis, Sunovion, and NDD Medical Technologies we have been able to increase our reach and help more New Jersey residents each year. The Home Runs for Healthy Lungs health initiative builds off the success we’ve had in the automotive space and will permit us to ensure everybody attending the baseball game (especially children and their parents) have the right access to education and resources for living with any respiratory disease.”
